How I work — a person-centred approach to online counselling

At the heart of my practice is a simple belief: you are the expert on your own life. My role isn’t to analyse you or give advice, but to empower you to explore your own answers.

I like to think about the therapy process as walking down a path together. I will walk alongside you, with genuine curiosity and care, as you explore what’s going on for you, at your own pace, in your own words. I might ask some questions or point out things I notice along the way, but you are always in control. I see counselling as a collaborative journey.

Sessions are led by you and there are no pre-planned agendas, worksheets or 'homework.'

What will our sessions actually look like?

Each therapy session lasts 50 minutes and takes place on Zoom. I will be in a confidential space during our sessions, and I will ask you to also be in a confidential space where you can't be interrupted or overheard.

You might arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about. Or you might arrive without knowing exactly where you want to begin. That's OK, too, because sessions don’t follow a script and are a safe place to explore without any agenda.

My qualifications

I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means I work within a rigorous ethical framework, carry professional indemnity insurance, and receive regular clinical supervision, which means my work is consistently reviewed to ensure it is of the highest standard. Your details remain completely confidential during any discussions I have with my supervisor about my work.

I also engage in ongoing continuing professional development, because I believe good therapy requires the therapist to keep learning, too.

Why choose a BACP registered counsellor?

In the UK, the titles ‘counsellor’ and ‘therapist’ are not legally protected. This means anyone could call themselves a counsellor or therapist and begin seeing clients, even if they have no training or qualifications.

Choosing a BACP registered practitioner gives you reassurance that your counsellor holds recognised qualifications, adheres to a professional code of ethics, and is subject to a formal complaints process if needed. It’s an important mark of accountability and trust. If you would like to look me up on the BACP register, my BACP member number is 418590.
